GEORGE Bengal. I am looking for information

I dont have much information about this surname. All I know is that my grandfather has features of an indian so do I, my father
died when I was very young; and the origination of our last name and family ethnic backgroung was never discussed. I would

GORDON Madras 1830-1871. Searching for info about
Emily Gordon (my GGM) who married William Mussen Campbell at Coonoor, Madras on 8th Sept 1871. Her father
was James William Gordon. He was at the wedding, so he may have worked in India. Family rumour says that
he was a missionary, but I don't know whether this was a full time profession, or whether he had some other role in the British
Army in India, or in the Indian Civil Service, or other. I would love to know who his wife was (Emily's mother). Maybe they
too were married in India. The only other information I have is that one of Emily Gordon's ancestors (grandmother
or great grandmother?) was called Sophia Hyde (or Hythe?). I have a miniature portrait of
her. It's also possible that Emily had a sister Sally Hythe (or Hyde?) Gordon. Any information
on any of these people, however indirect, would be most welcome! Contact: Rowan Sylvester-Bradley Website: www.sylvester-bradley.org
