DeBEAUX 1809 - 1900's
Madras. Benjamin Louis De BEAUX was born in Isington,
London c.1789. He joined the 25th Dragoons & arrived in India in late 1809. He married Jane LOVETT in
October 1817 in Arcot, but no father's names given so I'm stumped on Jane's LOVETT family. The 25th Dragoons
& RSM Benjamin Louis De Beaux returned to Chatham, Kent in November 1819 to be disbanded, leaving Jane
with a 6 month son, Benjamin Louis Joseph. His father never returned, (He married 'again' in London in 1824), but Jane never
married again & died in January 1850 in Vepery. There were 2 LOVETT's at Joseph's marriage to Julia HONEY
in December 1843 in Kamptee: G. & S.M. LOVETT. I'd love to find Jane's family as they obviously supported
her & her abandoned son. Joseph had a Chemist & Druggist shop on the Esplanade in Madras until his early death in
July 1864, when his widow Julia & their sons continued to run the shop/s for a while. They had 11 children, some of whom
lived to marry & have children of their own. Related names through
marriage include: CLAPHAM, GIBSON, BELL, CALLAGHAN, ROOTS
- in Karachi, MOORE, JANNEY - an American Missionary who returned to the U.S. with Mary,
FLYNN - in Calcutta. Also researching CLAPHAM, CUMBERLAND & HONEY.
