He returned to England in 1859 - 1861, and returned on retirement between 1863 till his death in 1877. Marian continued to live in Richmond Surrey till her death in 1899. Information is sought on where they met, what for the marriage took and where, and any other information about her.

Bengal 1872 to 1947 and probably before. Researching the family of Margaret Elizabeth BARTRAM. She married Daniel B HENWOOD in 1892 but he apparently abandoned her and she was considered to be a widow when she married Robert George Donald ATKINSON in 1904. They had two sons -- John Niels and Terrence Clive who was my husband's father. He was close to his cousins while in India and kept in touch with them in the UK when he moved to Australia. Two of Margaret's sisters married two of RGDA's brothers. Ellen Mary BARTRAM married Alexander Sydney ATKINSON and Sarah Caroline BARTRAM (or MONRO?) apparently married Allen John ATKINSON. RGDA was my husband's father and I am trying to trace the family arrival and history in India + trace and contact descendants in the UK. Have lost touch since the death of my father in law. 1860 - 1900 MADRAS - Tamil Nadu - St Thomas Mount. I'm researching the Magrath family, originally from Surrey, UK. I know there were three girls - Emily Josephine Magrath, Elizabeth Eve Magrath and Geraldine Mary Magrath born in Madras, Tamil Nadu India in the 1840's. Elizabeth married Hugh Cracroft in 1867, in India. Emily married George T. Beasley in 1868, also in India and one of their sons was George Longfield Beasley who eventually married Florence Winifred Jackson. She was my great aunt. I am trying to establish whether there are members of these Magrath or Beasley families still resident in England, in an attempt to find out more about my aunt. My aunt is buried in what I assume is the Magrath family vault in Brookwood Cemetery in Woking, Surrey, UK, along with George Longfield Beasley and Charles Magrath Beasley.

Madopollam and Ingeram, Madras 1781-1804. Patrick BOWIE was a surgeon in the HEIC mercantile service between 1773-1781, and then from 1781-1804 as a surgeon in the Madras Army. He is shown as being Assistant Surgeon at Ingeram attached to the 5th Battalion Native Infantry at Madopollam and Ingeram in March 1788. Surgeon 13 May 1788. Superintending Surgeon 1800. Attached to the General Hospital, Masulpitam January 1801. Retired in England from 13 June 1804. Had a son, George, born in the East Indies about 1800. Cannot find a marriage for Patrick, nor a birth for George. Would appreciate any snippet of help on this elusive ancestor.

BOYLE

1939 To 1950. I am searching for information on Percival Boyle. He received a commission to India in 1939 and was a 2nd Lieu in the 11th Battalion (regiment not known). He married Muriel George in Madras and they had a daughter, Patricia. Unfortunately, Muriel died when Patricia was only 5 years old. I believe Percival tried to contact his daughter in Calcutta in about 1947 (soon after Muriel's death) but did not manage to meet her. She would like to know what happened to him. We know that he rose to the rank of captain. Army list at the British Library state that he went to India in 1939 but after that the trail goes cold.

Madras 1820-1840. Matthew Bradshaw 41st reg foot wife Ann was killed in action 1832 wife Anna died when branch fell from tree children orphaned James born reg Madras 1829 and Matthew sent to Australia from the military school on the British soveryn James was 12 years old and Matthew 14 when they arrived in Australia in 1841. We have no leads to the surname of their mother as the lds baptism just states Matthew Bradshaw 41st reg Madras and mother Anna.

BRAINE

Early 1880's to 1882. The family was in Bombay and  Poona in the military. Ollyett Woodhouse Braine died in Quetta (now in Pakistan) in 1882. He was an officer in the military at the time of his death. Any information on the family would be greatly appreciated.

Madras 1793 -1804. Born on 15 SEPT 1793 in GALLE (SRI LANKA). Daughter of François BRILLON and Petronille BARTELS. Any information on what happened to her will be welcome. Her father died shortly after her birth and her mother married Jacques-Philippe CAUDMONT and move to Madras in 1795. Also researching CAUDMONT.

1839 - 1850? Henry Brindley joined the army in 1839. He spent 8 years in India. We have no personal information about Henry before he came to Australia in 1862 as a pensioner guard with his daughter Susanna, no wife. He married here and had a son who was my grandfather Joseph Brindley. Please contact me if you see any connection to your family.

Madras 1840-1922. My grandfather Harry William Morse BROWN (1867-1922) was Police Commissioner in Cochin and his father George Frederick (1841-?) was a coffee planter in the Kannur area. Any information would be welcome.

They had children 1) Eleanor Evaugeline Grace b c1871 married Edwin William FITZPATRICK 1893 and Will MATHER c1930. 2) Charlie born ?? 3) Kate born c1875 married Tomas James STANHOPE JONES 29 Apr 1895 - children Percy & Cedric. 4) Eddie born ?? 5) Letitia Maud b 26 Dec 1877 in India, married Will ROSS HAYES 14 Nov 1897 - no children. 6) William born 4 Mar 1879 in Alipor. 7) Walter Hugh (my great grandfather) born 24 Jul 1880 in Alipor married Kathleen Teresa COCHRANE 10 Jan 1905, died 23 Feb 1919 in Basrah. Also mentioned in letters are Aunty Toots and Aunty Ellen and various cousins but not sure where they fit.

Charles was a policeman and from the civil services lists in the OIOC I have found him appearing at Singbhoom in Oct 1866 as an inspector 3rd Grade. In 1872 he moved to Twenty Four Pergunnahs. In 1879 he was in Alipor and in 1884 in Patna. In 1902 he was listed in Thackers as a pensioner in Patna and he died at Dinapore on 29 Jun 1902. Joined East India Co, sailed from Calcutta 8.12.1838. Upton Castle not heard of again. Does anyone have any further information on Captain David Buchan or "Upton Castle". I am a g.g.g.g.g'daughter.

Bengal 1783 - 1831. Edward William BUTLER, born 1769 arrived India c1783 as a cadet promoted through to L. Col at the time of his death in 1819. His second marriage in 1806 was to Harriet Christie widow of Charles Christie. His son also Edward William born May 1806 was in India until mid 1830's. He also had a daughter Caroline Ann Sophia who may have married James Nicholson.
