KENNEDY 1830 - c 1850 Calcutta, Bengal. My Great Great Grandfather James KENNEDY was said to have been born in Layde, Antrim c 1809. & in 1829 enlisted with the East India Company in Liverpool  & went to India in 1830, with his1st wife Susan, ( surname unknown ) & when Susan died in 1835, aged 25, he married Susan Adam in 1837, the widow of William Adam, a Private in the 49th Regt, d. 1833 age 32yrs. The children born in Calcutta India, to James Kennedy & his 2 wives, Mary Anne Pattison Kennedy, b. 1831, d 1832, Dum Dum, Calcutta. George Jackson Kennedy b. 1834, d. 1835, James Kennedy b. & d. 1838, Bengal, James Higginson Kennedy b. 1840, Fort William, Bengal, d. 1905 New Zealand. David Blake/Black Kennedy b. 1842, Fort William, Bengal, d. 1897 ( en route to Australia from New Guinea, buried at sea ). I have often wondered if the children's second christian name may have been family names. Maybe I should look for a marriage of a James Kennedy & Susan ? ......Pattison or Jackson,  probably in Ireland.

James Higginson & David Blake came to New Zealand in 1863 from Australia, to fight in the Land Wars. David returned to Australia & became an explorer and gold prospector. He had been in the search of gold when he was taken from New Guinea in ill health. Susan Kennedy ( formerley Adam ) d. 1885 in Castlemaine, Victoria, Australia, as did James ( Senior ) in 1896. Susan 's death certificate stated that she had also had a daughter Maria Adam, ( not known, dead or alive).

I do have more information on James' Military Life.

Would love to hear from anyone who may have interests in the families above. Contact:
