Notes for MICHEL JOSEPH GAUTRON:

Michel Portais, the Commissioner of Police, was Michels Godfather and Claude Chamot was his Godmother.  He came to Canada about 1670.

The 1681 Census shows that Michel had two arpents of land that were under cultivation.

A business transaction between Louis Begin and partners Michel Gautron & Claude Regnard states that Michel & Claude live in Quebec and that the two partners were to cut cord wood for Begin starting 1 December 1676 until 15 April 1677.  Michel & Claude were to be paid 25 sols or 1 1/4 livre per cord ( a cord being 8ft long, 4ft high & 2 1/2-3 1/2ft deep.  Etienn Landron & Simon Rocheron initialed the agreement.

Michel deposed before Notary Michon on 22 February that he was in ill health and could no longer maintain his property and provide for his own needs.  His family agreed to provide at least three hundred livres a year towards his support.  Twenty Masses were said for the repose of his soul at his death.  His farm was divided into eight equal parts.  Each heir had 3 1/2 perches, 4ft and 3 inches of frontal land.  The heirs decided not to parcel the land immediately as Michel, the son, needed to farm it for a while in order for the inheritance to be more productive.
