S/32962 Rifleman Harry Gascoyne, 20th Garrison Battalion The Rifle Brigade. Died at Sea on 15 April 1917.  Born Hackney, Middlesex, enlisted Stratford, Essex and was at that time living in Layton, Essex.  He first enlisted as Number 21060 in The Essex Regiment.

Garrison battalions were made up of men who had been wounded, or were medically down graded, their duties were to do some ceremonial duties, and such things as guard Prisoners of War.
